Funny how I was typing about chocolates and just had to find some before going to bed. I found a new bag of Raisinets which have been a favorite of mine for many years. The Nestle company has recently started selling Raisinets with dark chocolate in order to jump on the band wagon that has been getting stronger each year. I haven’t even tried it myself, I’ve very happy with the milk chocolate ones, so why mess with perfection, right?
Each Christmas brings back a flood of memories of many of the holidays during my childhood. The one thing that I miss the most is the family music that was always made and played at my great aunt and uncle’s house. Coming from an extremely musical family it only made sense to celebrate with music. Just about everyone played at least one musical instrument and if they didn’t they surely had a great singing voice. If by chance you couldn’t do either you were kept busy in the kitchen and the dining room making sure that there was a steady flow of food and drink ready during the entire celebration. Since I can’t play any instrument or carry a tune, I can only thank goodness I was a kid and didn’t have to partake in that. I was too busy running around the house, the yard and digging the music being played in the living room.
Uncle Earl was my favorite (for a variety of reasons) I can still see him playing one of his many beautiful gently used saxophones that he was so proud of. I could never understand how a person could play one of these saxophones. It requires so much breath, surely one could possibly pass out from the lack of oxygen being passed through the body. Actually most of the windwind and basswind instruments require such a talent, a talent that just leaves this person breathless.
I don’t know what I would do with out my slow cooking Crock Pot, now that I have figured out so many ways to use it, I find myself pulling it out from under the counter more and more as time goes by. Today was a perfect day to put it to use, they way it spills the aroma all through out the house is just wonderful and keeps everyone from wondering too far from the house come dinner time, that puts a smile on my face.
I’ve heard that we all need 5000 IU of Vitamin D but I’ve noticed that it isn’t easy finding this dosage of Vitamin D in the stores (what I’m finding is more like 200 IU and 400 IU) so I have been doing a bit of looking around online about vitamin D.
I found that Sundown Naturals sells bottles of 2000 IU of their vitamin D so I’ve placed an order via their website and I believe that I will give my sister the bottle and urge her to start taking them twice a day. I’m sure she will be getting the rest of the vitamin in her milk, yogurt, ice cream and other foods that have vitamin D in them. She also takes calcium each day (or so she tells me she does) and that has vitamin D in it as well.
I’m told that if she takes 5000 IU of vitamin D she should be feeling the difference within 30 days. So I’d like to see her taking them right away to see if they can help her feel better in so many ways that enough vitamin D can do for any of us.
I went out last night to take the trash to the end of the drive way and was totally surprised on how cold it was. I know that summer is offically over but my goodness I am not ready for this colder weather, guess I need to start breaking out my winter clothes soon, sigh. . .
