The current TV commercials for Jack in the Box have Jack, their main man, hurt and in the hospital. There is a whole series of vignettes about the accident, the ER, the hospital room, etc. that is cute and ends with a web site address: hangintherejack.com This is really clever marketing, and typical of the high caliber advertising campaigns run by Jack in the Box. In my opinion, the whole organization is top shelf. I go to Jack in the Box at least once a week for a breakfast burrito. They make theirs with sirloin steak and it’s a bargain.
Every once in while I have a craving for a great burger, and I’ll go to Jack in the Box for one of their sirloin burgers. They are huge and taste better than any other burger in the area with the exception of Backyard Burgers. McDonald’s is last on my list of fast food joints to eat at. Funny how I managed to eat there almost every single day as a teenager and early adult years and can’t even stand the smell of the place or their “food”. The only thing I will go to McDonald’s for is there $1 sweet tea and now a days they are making it so sweet it hurts my teeth.
There are plenty of branded donuts to choose from when you want to have donuts for breakfast. The grocery stores carry Hostess, Entenman, Little Debbie, and their own bakery produced selections. There are also specialty bakery stores, such as Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts. Personally, my favorite donut bakery is the Shipley Donuts. There are only a handful of those stores around town, and none of them are on the normal route to my office. So if I want to pick up some donuts on the way to the office, I either go out of my way 15 minutes to the bakery or then get stuck in traffic on the way back or I go by the one Krispy Kreme store that is on the commute route.
I like Shipley enough that I would be willing to go by there on my way home and keep the donuts overnight for presentation the next morning. That’s not as good as freshly baked, but at least they have the full flavor of the Shipley recipes. But the Shipley stores close down mid-afternoon, and the best donuts are sold out each morning to customers who drive over in the morning and get first choice. So I am resigned to only having Shipley donuts once in a blue moon and when I get the occasional urge to treat the office with donuts, they will just get the convenient Krispy Kreme glazed
The taste of that nasty home made beer that we made so many decades ago in the basement of the old house that we grew up in, still lingers in my memory. The beer kits that we had available back sure have come a long way and from what I understand people are using these beer kits more and more as the amount of people are on the rise who enjoy drinking a variety of beers instead of just the old “standbys” that we grew up drinking, or tried to anyway.
My sister was telling me of a restaurant at the Tyson’s Corner Mall that she and her son went to last year that brews their own beer and has a sampler of beers that both of them really enjoyed sampling. Sampling is the way to go and I keep meaning to mention this establishment that I know several people that would enjoy going with me some time. It is a 1 1/2 hour drive, but hopefully worth the extra time and miles for something fun and different. I can’t remember the name of the place, I’ll have to check with my sister and make sure that it is still even there. Businesses come and go so quickly in malls these days.
I remember when ordering a pizza delivery used to be a cheap meal that I usually took advantage of a couple of times a week, until the prices went up so crazy like that I could no longer afford my favorite pizza to be delivered to my door. They started charging for the delivery, plus the cost of the pizza and then came the tip and I’m a generous tipper since I’ve spent time working for tips in the past before. So it got to be that it started to total up into the thirty dollar range instead of the twenty dollar one that I’d grown accustomed to, and that is way too expensive for someone like me to have to dish out several times a week. It has gotten to be a real treat to be able to have Domino’s deliver their wonderful Thin Crust Pepperoni Pizza that I can only afford maybe once or twice a month.
So I’m so pleased to see that the main top 3 pizza deliveries are having a pizza price war these past couple of years. Now I can afford to call Domino’s a bit more often these days. Now if other prices would start dropping, life would be so much easier on so many of us that are struggling with our finances due to the economy.
Sunday’s are the best day of the week, a relaxing morning to sleep in on, a slow puttering about the house and the preparation of Sunday dinner is an on going thing throughout the day, usually using the slow cooker to produce the most wonderful aroma’s just enough to make your stomach wanting to eat much earlier than the designated time frame for the day.
Today a nice pot roast is simmering away with carrots, potatoes and beef broth, with plenty of salts and peppers to make it so nicely seasoned for maximum taste quality. It should be ready in time for the games.
