Yesterday was supposed to be in the 80′s so I was looking forward to spending the day doing outside activities, the flea market high on the list. Well once again the weatherman wasn’t even close on his forecast and we ended up in the mid 90′s. I still went to the flea market though. I feel so sorry for the vendors that are there on the black top in that kind of heat, it must be hell.

I have always enjoyed the look of a house that has window boxes for plants and/or window boxes for flowers, especially the ones that actually are being used and tended to and are full of lively plants and flowers. The house that I grew up in had flower boxes galore around the place. My mother took it upon herself to make our house and our yard as nice looking and homey as possible. When ever I drive by the old house I keep expecting to see those flower boxes and am always depressed to see that they have been long gone and forgotten by newer owners and/or tenants.

The city does a good job keeping up with the flower boxes that have in Old Town. With this horrible heat wave that we have been experiencing this summer, I’m sure it hasn’t been an easy task keeping things from severly suffering from the and looking as good as they do. I’m impressed. My city taxes are hard at work there folks! The roads suck but the planters look great! LOL

It’s that time of the year that the TV is blaring at us all of the “Back to School” sales that are going on right now. Some schools have started all ready, some start next week and then the schools like I used to attend are waiting until after Labor day to have the kids come back for the start of the 2010-2011 school year. We are all ready seeing school buses out and about, pretty soon the whole traffic pattern will change in the mornings and the afternoons for so many people.

I used to love the first day of school. It seemed to always rain on the first day of school. My best friend and I still joke about how it always rains on the first day of school. Her son went back to school (grade 9) on Aug 2nd and of course it rained a tradition tried and true!

I’d love to go back to school. One day I will enroll in some community college classes. The Internet will make a big difference in the way I will learn when I go back to school. I can go online and get Math help, Algebra help, actually any type of Homework help will be available to me. It makes me wonder what we did with out the Internet. One thing I know is that we spent a lot of time at the local library, which I’m sure is missing all of the folks staying at home on the Internet.

Just when my mother had things all lined up and ready to go for their “After Labor Day” trip to Myrtle Beach, she up and changes things and has my Dad all bent out of shape about the whole deal. He just wants her to make Myrtle Beach hotel reservations and line up a couple of tee times and be done with it all. He is so laid back and she is so full of energy and full of herself that they clash at times like most older married couples do. He wants to get a way and play some golf and she wants to shop, dine and dance along the beach the whole time.

Anyway she has found a new Myrtle Beach Accommodations website at http://www.seasidemb.com. The Seaside Resort is located in North Myrtle Beach and the previous accommodations were in a different area all together, so my mother switched things around and hopefully they will be all set. September is right around corner. I’m hoping that they will have good weather, who knows what September will be bringing us with all of the wacky and extreme weather that we have been experiencing this past year or so. Good weather can break or make a beach trip.

The word is that resorts in Myrtle Beach are filling up this summer and fall season. The Gulf is so messed up and the mess with all of this nasty, but precious oil, is fast traveling north messing up beach plans for thousands or possibly and more reasonably millions of people for sun in the fun and the waters.

My folks were planning a trip south for Labor Day weekend, but have had to re think, re shuffle and re do the whole thing thanks to BP and their incompetence and miss management of the whole oil leak issue. My folks have used the Internet to find a Myrtle Beach hotel that can accommodate all of what they like and expect for one of their holiday events. They are avid golfers so that is an important issue to them and Myrtle Beach certainly is known for having some wonderful golf courses available.

My mother sent me the link to http://avistaresort.com so that I can see what see has picked for their accommodations. It looks to me, I’m just surprised that they had any openings with so many flocking to Myrtle Beach South Carolina this time around. I hope the weather is good for them, they deserve a great weather get-a-way, it’s been a hard past couple of years for them.

This was sent to me by a good friend and I wanted to pass it along, it might help save a life you never know.

Driving in the rain . .This may save your life

I’ve not tried this but going to..

GOOD VISION IN A DOWNPOUR

How to achieve good vision while driving during a heavy downpour.

We are not sure why it is so effective; just try this method when it rains heavily. This method was told by a Police friend who had experienced and confirmed it.

It is useful…even driving at night. Most of the motorists would turn on HIGH or FASTEST SPEED of the wipers during heavy downpour, yet the visibility in front of the windshield is still bad……

In the event you face such a situation, just try your SUN GLASSES (any model will do), and miracle! All of a sudden, your visibility in front of your windshield is perfectly clear, as if there is no rain.

Make sure you always have a pair of SUN GLASSES in your car, as you are not only helping yourself to drive safely with good vision, but also might save your friend’s life by giving him this idea.. Try it yourself and share it with your friends!??? Amazing, you still see the drops on the windshield, but not the sheet of rain falling.

You can see where the rain bounces off the road.? It works to eliminate the “blindness” from passing semi’s spraying you too.? Or the “kickup” if you are following a semi or car in the rain.? They ought to teach that little tip in driver’s training.. It really does work.

This warning is a good one! I wonder how many people know about this . A 36 year old female had an accident several weeks ago and totaled her car. A resident of Kilgore , Texas she was traveling between Gladewater & Kilgore. It was raining, though not excessively, when her car suddenly began to hydro-plane and literally flew through

the air. She was not seriously injured but very stunned at the sudden occurrence! When she explained to the highway patrolman what had happened he told her something that every driver should know – NEVER DRIVE IN THE RAIN WITH YOUR CRUISE CONTROL ON. She thought she was being cautious by setting the cruise control and maintaining a safe consistent speed in the rain..

But the highway patrolman told her that if the cruise control is on when your car begins to hydro-plane and your tires lose contact with the pavement, your car will accelerate to a higher rate of speed making you take off like an airplane. She told the patrolman that was exactly what had occurred. The patrolman said this warning should be listed, on the driver’s seat sun-visor – NEVER USETHE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE PAVEMENT IS WET OR ICY, along with the airbag warning. We tell our teenagers to set the cruise control and drive a safe speed – but we don’t tell them to use the cruise control only when the pavement is dry.

The only person the accident victim found, who knew this (besides the patrolman), was a man who had a similar accident, totaled his car and sustained severe injuries.

NOTE: Some vehicles (like the Toyota Sienna Limited XLE) will not allow you to set the cruise control when the windshield wipers are on.
