Sunday’s are the best day of the week, a relaxing morning to sleep in on, a slow puttering about the house and the preparation of Sunday dinner is an on going thing throughout the day, usually using the slow cooker to produce the most wonderful aroma’s just enough to make your stomach wanting to eat much earlier than the designated time frame for the day.

Today a nice pot roast is simmering away with carrots, potatoes and beef broth, with plenty of salts and peppers to make it so nicely seasoned for maximum taste quality. It should be ready in time for the games.

The patio planters that I ordered are supposed to be coming in any day. This year I really plan on getting the patio completely done, organized, and decorated by Memorial Day so that I can have a few friends over for a nice cook out on my beautiful patio that I am so excited about to use this year. I’m so glad that my tax refund check allowed me to purchase a sun roof for it, so it’s all good to go except a few details and a good power wash before varnishing, hopefully that will happen the next week end or two.

If you know me at all either from here on my ramblings on this blog or in real life up and personal like then you know how I feel about the recycling issue that is such a hot topic these days. I grew up with parents from the Woodstock hippie generation and was brought up with recycling becoming second nature in life. I have a habit of getting on my soap box at times about people being too lazy to participate in even the simplest recycling effort. And I’ve implemented many a recycling programs in places that I’ve worked out all of my life.

Tonight was the first night of the new TV show on CNBC called “The Secret Life of Garbage” and I’m so glad to see that this trash issue is being addressed on national TV. Did you know that 80% of the trash that we throw out could be recycled and that only 28% of our trash ends up in the recycling bins. That is an outrageous percentage folks, we could be doing so much better than that!

I had no idea that he was even into models and I’ve known him no for over two years. Last night I was invited to their house for dinner and had a nice laid back evening with just the two of them, that is when he showed me his military models that he so very proud of and into. Guess I know what I’ll be getting him for Christmas and birthday presents in the future.

I just love my crock pot and am always looking for new recipes to try in it. Today I am cooking four nice pork chops (boneless & lean) along with 2 cans of candid yams and a couple sliced apples with a sprinkle of cinnamon and a bit of brown sugar in my crock pot. I’m browning the pork chops as I type in the oven before putting them in the crock pot, I like that texture much better and I’m always concerned that I’m going to serve someone an under cooked piece of chicken or pork, so I tend to over cook them both, but I still enjoy them. The house is going to smell great!

I however like to add a shot of Captain Morgan’s 100% proof Spiced Rum, along with a cinnamon stick, which I add for the flavor and to use to stir the mixture with also. It makes for a wonderful winter beverage that will certainly put a smile on your face and warm your insides at the same time.

This year’s Thanksgiving dinner celebration is going to be different from previous ones. My mother usually hosts these holiday functions at the old homestead, but this year my brother’s daughter has volunteered to have Thanksgiving at her new town house. We were afraid that my mother might be upset with this but she seems grateful that she won’t have to do both Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, since it is a lot of hard work for her to tackle each and every year. So we will see how it all works out come next Thursday afternoon.

We have a pretty diverse group of good people where I work, which makes for interesting conversations and interactions throughout the time that we are all stuck there each work day. Having so many people from various races and countries certainly makes some interesting smells coming out of the break room, especially during lunch time. You never know what you are going to find cooking in the microwave or being kept in the refrigerator, it can be kind of scary some times as well.

Another cool thing is the variety of music that gets played throughout the day on numerous computers that we all have access to at our desks. Yesterday our Nigerian employee found some interesting Online Nigerian Music at a site that is chocked full of Nigerian Songs that he found at Hibuzz.com, which also offer a variety of Nigerian Movies that a few of us were checking out to see what they were all about. It was a nice change of pace from the country music that so many of my co workers seem to enjoy listening so much. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have anything against country music but I like my music to be mixed up a bit, not the same thing over and over and country music tends to get depressing after a while.

I did a bit of cleaning up around the place last weekend. Got rid of a ton of trash, freed up some space in my home office and the basement. It’s amazing how quickly we accumulate so much crap isn’t it? I found several years worth of phone books that I haven’t even looked at in several years. I mean if you have the Internet you really don’t need the local yellowpages for much. I can’t remember the last time I even thought of looking for something or some one in any type of paper phone book. My recycling bin got filled up quickly and is ready to be put on the curb in the morning for the city to pick up and recycle for me.

If I need to find something like one of the local restaurants all I have to do is go on a site such as local.com and they have everything that I need. The address, the phone number, directions and even reviews. Now what paper phone book can do all of that? I love how the World Wide Web has made a local search such an easy task to tackle and it can allow you to find people, places and things all over, which is just so cool.
