I get so darn tired of this crazy computer messing up. I swear one day I’m going to throw this thing out the door.
I’m more than sure everyone that has a computer has said that more than once. I know I have and not that long ago. I had been working on this one project for several weeks. You know how it is, you go back several times and tweak things like that until you are finally happy with it and then…… You guessed it, my computer crashed. Everything I had just done was gone. Luckily I didn’t lose all of it since I had gone back to work on it several times and saved my work every time I finished. But I wasn’t finished this time. Took me twice as long to go back through it again.
After complaining, ranting and raving to myself for hours, a friend happened to stop by. After laughing at me for what seemed like ten minutes, he informed me all I needed was to get a fix registry program. A what, I asked. He had learned the hard way that there are programs you can get to fix your registry and it solves most any problem you have. The registry is where the computer stores all of its configuration information. Didn’t mean much to me but when he said it would keep my computer from crashing again, I was hooked! Works every time.
So many places are only accepting job applications online these days, so if you don’t have access to a computer and are looking for a job you could really be in a bind. Of course you can always go to the library, but what a drag that is especially if there isn’t a library close at hand. So many of these online applications are intense and can take a considerable amount of time, so you have to take that in consideration as well. Some places have a computer right there for you to use, but that must be a hassle, what with all of the information that is required that not everyone has stored in their memory and have written down on several pieces of paper here and there.
Anyway I stumbled across and interesting website that has tons of the applications that are available online that I have forwarded to several good folks that are looking for work, even those looking for McDonalds jobs that are pretty easy to land and are usually hiring. This website is found at job-applications.com, pass it on folks. Anything that makes a job search easier can be a big help and truly appreciated, I can personally vouch for that.
There are plenty of branded donuts to choose from when you want to have donuts for breakfast. The grocery stores carry Hostess, Entenman, Little Debbie, and their own bakery produced selections. There are also specialty bakery stores, such as Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts. Personally, my favorite donut bakery is the Shipley Donuts. There are only a handful of those stores around town, and none of them are on the normal route to my office. So if I want to pick up some donuts on the way to the office, I either go out of my way 15 minutes to the bakery or then get stuck in traffic on the way back or I go by the one Krispy Kreme store that is on the commute route.
I like Shipley enough that I would be willing to go by there on my way home and keep the donuts overnight for presentation the next morning. That’s not as good as freshly baked, but at least they have the full flavor of the Shipley recipes. But the Shipley stores close down mid-afternoon, and the best donuts are sold out each morning to customers who drive over in the morning and get first choice. So I am resigned to only having Shipley donuts once in a blue moon and when I get the occasional urge to treat the office with donuts, they will just get the convenient Krispy Kreme glazed
It feels pretty weird to get someone that you love and care about a Christmas present that you don’t even have a clue as to what it is. I have talked about my geeky younger brother who has turned out to be the family computer whiz that we all turn to with our computer problems these past couple of years. I swear I don’t know why he has decided not to make this his full time job instead of just piddling around with it and assisting the friends and families that utilize his skills and knowledge for free. I understand that he loves his full time job, but he certainly isn’t getting rich by running the local gas station that he has been managing for the past 10 years or so.
All he wants for Christmas is computer related products and I have agreed to purchase the eoncode web 2 print software for him since it was the last thing on his Christmas wish list that he emailed everyone, which is what our family has been doing these past couple of years. That way we all know who wants what and we can communicate so easily with emails. Who would have thought, ten years ago that we would be relying so heavily on the Internet to keep in touch with each other?
I just hope I got him the right one.
The start of boycotting started with me when Exxon had the huge oil spill in Alaska back in the mid 1980s. They were (and still are) very irresponsible with the actions that they took and with the lack of taking responsibility for the damage that occurred as well as the repercussions from their company and the “Exxon Valdez” that caused the whole mess. To this day Exxon is still not being held accountable to the fullest extent and it just irks me. So I have made it a habit not to purchase any gas from Exxon, nor Mobile gas, since they merged together a decade or so ago. I don’t mind using their restrooms, but that is the extent of my relationship with any Exxon or Mobile gas station, to this very day, some 25 years or so later.
Now BP has come into place now with their oil leak issues and we don’t even have to go any further than that since the news is still full of horror stories about that mess and won’t be going away any time soon. Since the leak first started and BP wasn’t there fixing it and doing what needed to be done I have made it a practice not to purchase or visit any of the BP stations that I’ve seen and I don’t plan on it any time soon.
I just heard that BP has settled the criminal charges for $4 billion in the spill and that a handful of supervisors have been indicted on manslaughter. That has just made by day, heck made my year! As you can tell by my boycotting of these huge oils companies how strongly I feel about these accountability issues, so this is a great victory, but unfortunately this doesn’t make things go away, there is still a long and hard road ahead of both area sue to this nonsense but at least it is a start that I’m grateful for hearing about.
