A Whole Lot of Changes Going On With Warranties

It has been so long since I have bought a new car or a used car from a dealer’s lot. I usually end up with a hand me down from someone in the family or a family friend. Believe me I’m not complaining, to me a car is simply a necessary mode of transportation. I’ve never been into the cool cars that most of my friends and other folks find themselves drooling over when they see one that they really like going down the road, or worse yet, almost driving right off of the road in an effort to get a better and longer look. Believe me I’ve been there (in the passenger seat) had it done and it didn’t do a thing for me except piss me off to think that my safety is being jeopardized over a quick glance at a nice looking car!

Anyway, I just got my tax refund back and I’ve decided to go ahead and purchase a newer type vehicle for once in my life, so I have a lot of looking around and research to do. I hadn’t really planned on this so I haven’t been looking about what so ever, but when the check arrived in the mail and I saw that the amount would be enough for a decent down payment on a car, it hit me all at once that this would be the perfect time to do such a thing.

My Dad wants to help me out with some of his expertise in the car sales game. But he is so old school and wants to drive all over town looking at all the varieties of cars for sale on the car lots that are all over town, while I’m more into looking around online and seeing what is out there and then go to a dealership and ask questions and go for a test drive. My Dad is also adamant about me purchasing an Extended Warranty, which is strange because this is a man who ranted and raved about me purchasing an Extended Warranty for my stereo system back when I still lived at home. He was very much against these warranties until they started offering some good ones with the vehicles that are purchased from a dealer. These offers have been proven to be a major cost saver, and with the cost of owning and maintaining a vehicle, money saved is a big issue.

In doing just a bit of research on the Car Warranty subject, I have all ready learned that what used to be called an Extended Auto Warranty is now called a Service Contract. I didn’t know that there was so much to learn about warranties, but I’m glad that I’m taking the time right now and finding out what I can on my own before I find myself face to face with a salesperson. I’m sure that I’ll be nervous and having my Dad with me could go either way, if you know what I mean.

I’ll keep you posted here on my progress. It will take some time. I’m in no hurry to cash in the check that Uncle Sam finally decided to send to me this year.
